Expert Martial Arts Instruction in Burton

Meet our team of expert and fully qualified martial arts instructors at the Jon Jepson Black Belt Academy

Shihan Dean Fern

Martial Arts Burton school owner, Dean Fern, started training in 1983 after gaining an interest in martial arts when he saw some demonstrations on a Saturday morning TV show for kids.  He liked the idea of learning the skills he saw and took up martial arts as an alternative to other sports such as cricket and football which he didn't particularly enjoy.  He also thought it would help with his general lack of confidence.

He has risen through the ranks to become a 5th Dan Black Belt and his specific fighting style is Wado Ryu Karate which he teaches alongside kick boxing and all the disciplines under the umbrella of  extreme and mixed martial arts.

Master Aaron Pritchard-Fern

Martial Arts Burton instructor, Aaron Pritchard-Fern, started training in 2004 after gaining an interest in martial arts at a very early age.

He has worked and trained hard to become a 3rd Dan Black Belt and his specific fighting style is Wado Ryu Karate which he teaches alongside kick boxing, karate, jiu jitsu and other martial arts disciplines.

Master Aaron Pritchard-Fern is dedicated to helping all students who enrol at the school to become the best they can be, both in their chosen martial art and in all aspects of their life.

Master Marc Dennis

Martial Arts Burton instructor, Marc Dennis, started training in 2004 because his sister was already training and needed a sparring partner. However, he quickly got hooked and found that his new found skills gave him confidence and helped keep the bullies away at the school he was attending.

He has risen through the ranks to become a 2nd Dan Dan Black Belt and his specific fighting style is Wado Ryu Karate which he teaches alongside kick boxing and all the disciplines under the umbrella of mixed martial arts.

Master Marc Dennis is a regular visitor to local schools in the area where he talks to students about how martial arts helped him in many aspects of his life and can help them too.

Master Richard Lord

Martial Arts Burton Instructor, Richard Lord, started training in 2002 because of family difficulties at home. His mother was very keen for him to be able to defend himself in the event of physical conflict.  His mother insisted he continue training at times that he wanted to give up. Master Lord is so glad his mother made him continue as his martial art skills helped him weather difficult times at school and gave him confidence and life skills he appreciates as an adult.

He has risen through the ranks to become a 3rd Dan Black Belt and his specific fighting style is Wado Ryu Karate which he teaches alongside kick boxing and all the disciplines under the umbrella of mixed martial arts.
